A deer antler chandelier is a very interesting lighting alternative for your home. For those individuals who desire the rustic look of the wilderness, this type of chandelier is excellent for creating a wilderness themed décor. The deer chandelier is very popular amongst people who own cabins or businesses that provide outdoor products and services. This type of chandelier not only provides interesting lighting but it also can be purchased with either real or faux deer antlers. There is a difference in the look and feel of real and faux antlers. Depending on the look you desire one type may be more preferable than another. When selecting your antler chandelier there are a number of factors that you should consider.
Antler chandeliers can be made with either real or antlers or faux antlers. Real antlers are usually collected from areas where deer live. These antlers are shed by the deer periodically and range in size depending on the age of the deer. Antlers are usually bigger as the deer becomes older. Real antler chandeliers are heavy, hard and dense. They also have slight variations in the coloring as is naturally found with antlers. Likewise, a chandelier made from real antlers also come in different grades. It is best to only purchase antlers that are made from Grade 1 or Grade 2 antlers. Grade 1 antlers are newly shed and have minimal cracks and still have shine and luster. Grade 2 antlers may have minor cracks that are a result from being exposed to the sun, snow or rain. Grade 3 and 4 antlers usually are not worth using for a chandelier as they usually have large cracks and may even crumble. It is always best to use a top grade for your chandelier to ensure sturdy, safe construction.
Chandeliers can also be made using faux antlers. Faux antlers are preferred by people who have concerns about the collection process of real antlers or for those that simply like the look of real antlers but don’t want real antlers hanging in their homes. Faux antlers are made from a hard substance such as resin. The resin is poured into pre-made molds that are shaped like antlers. Faux antlers weigh less than real antlers because of the materials used to make them. In addition, they lack the natural color variations that real antlers possess.
There are different types of deer antlers so there are variations. Deer antlers from whitetail and mule deer are very popular. These two types of antlers do not look the same as the coloring differs amongst the types of antlers. The size of the whitetail and the mule antlers also vary as some deer have antlers that grow larger naturally. When deciding upon your chandelier, make sure to consider the size of the room that you will hang the chandelier so that you will choose a chandelier that complements rather than overpowers the room.
A chandelier that uses antlers as the base is very unique. No two antlers look the same so you will be able to have a piece of lighting that can be both a lighting mechanism and an interesting topic of conversation.
